The Board has taken steps for Renovation, Modernization & Up-rating (RMU) of old Projects. 37.5 MW Pallivasal HEP, 48 MW Sengulam HEP and 30 MW Panniar HEP were renovated during the period 2001-2002. 52.5 MW Neriamangalam HEP was renovated during 2004-2006 and 335 MW Sabarigiri HEP was renovated during the period 2005-2009.

Also the RMU of 32 MW Poringalkuthu HEP (commissioned in 1957) is included in the 11th five year plan and the RMU of 75 MW Kuttiyadi HEP 1st phase (commissioned in 1966) is included in 12th plan. Further the RMU of Idukki 1st stage units (3 x 130 MW – commissioned in 1976) are also included in the 12th plan.
